May 5 - Celebration of Mexico's victory over French forces. This event was also a turning point for the United States because Mexico's victory kept Napoleon III from supporting the confederate Army. This gave the United States time to build up its army and eventually defeat the Confederates at Gettysburg just 14 months after the battle of Puebla, essentially ending the Civil War.
