December - The lighting of the tree marks the beginning of traditional holiday activities celebrated on Olvera Street. Each year a tree is chosen to light as a signal that the holiday season has begun. The tree lighting is followed by free champurrado (Mexican traditional chocolate drink) and pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread). A Piñata is filled with candies for the children to break and enjoy in the Plaza area.
